Report overview
Fatty Amides Lubricants are mainly divided into interacid amides, oleic acid amides, and stearyl amides. Erucamide is prepared from monounsaturated C22 erucic acid. Oleamide is derived from C18 monounsaturated oleic acid. Oleamide is generally considered to be a fast-release slip agent because it migrates to the film surface at a faster rate than erucamide. Although erucamide migrated more slowly than oleamide, the COF of films treated with erucamide was lower than that of oleamide after a certain time.
When the fatty acid amide must also provide an anti-stick effect, stearylamide is usually employed. Stearamide belongs to another class of slip agents, mainly used in combination with oleamide or erucamide. In general, inorganic anti-blocking agents such as silica are most commonly used, but sometimes, in applications where transparency of the film is important, fatty acid amides are used to impart an anti-blocking effect to the material. Among the fatty acid amides, the best antistick properties are obtained using stearylamide, but it is not as effective as erucamide or oleamide in reducing COF.
